Feefo ratings vital for new Google ‘best’ Product Ads

A new ranking treatment for ‘top-rated’ products in Google Shopping is now live on mobile and desktop, as revealed by Search Engine Land.

What Does This Mean For Online Advertisers?

When a Google search includes a qualifier like ‘top’ or ‘best’, the product listing ads will most likely be numbered or ranked (see examples below).

How Does The Ranking Work?

Google have confirmed on Twitter that the top-rated products are selected to participate in the auction, where they then compete against each other for ad position.

What Role Will Ratings Play?

Whilst products with the best rating won’t necessarily be ranked number one, ratings will play a huge role in selecting products to participate.

Google incorporated ratings into PLAs two years ago; at the time they said:

We believe these ratings will help differentiate products across google.com and google.com/shopping and will help merchants drive more qualified traffic through Product Listing Ads. In initial tests, product ratings also helped increase click-through-rates of Product Listing Ads.
